Growth: Congregations and the UUA PDF Print E-mail
We have only begun to tap the wisdom and depth in our congregational life that will strengthen and expand our free faith in the future. We will grow because we learn lessons from the most successful congregations in our association and in other traditions. The UUA must continue to encourage our congregations to share their best practices. The UUA will never have a single growth strategy, but must work with a diversity of successful models drawn from thriving congregations.

Excellence in Ministry PDF Print E-mail
Our discussion about excellence in ministry has to be about our shared ministry as professional and lay leaders. The old expression that 'great churches make great ministers' reminds me that excellence in ministry cannot be separated from excellence in congregational life. The call to excellence is a call to depth of spirit and tradition in our creative engagement as ministers in the world.

The UUA Board of Trustees has been taking the lead through the Panel on Theological Education in this in-depth discussion of what excellence in ministry means for us in this new century. I look forward to participating in the summit meeting they plan for the fall of 08, believing that only an inclusive conversation among all stakeholders can bring us the vision that we need.

Our Anti-Racism, Anti-Oppression and Multicultural Commitments PDF Print E-mail

Our spiritual journey down this road requires us all to develop the capacity to confess our own impoverishment, as well as share our wealth and gifts. I pledge to you to continue to work with all the courage and creativity I can muster to move this work forward.

Young Adult Ministry PDF Print E-mail

The young adult years from eighteen to thirty-five are critical years in the formation of religious identity and commitment. Possibly more than at any other time in the lifespan, young adults seek experiences of spiritual vision and commitment. That was certainly true in my own life as I moved from fundamentalism towards liberal religion.
