Spring District meetings are underway PDF Print E-mail
Like many Unitarian Universalists in lay and ministerial leadership, I look forward to attending my District meeting each year. The ministers in the Southwest Conference have a covenant which includes our attendance at specific events during the year and especially at the spring District Assembly. As a result ours is not only a grand gathering of the larger family of Southwest UUs from far and wide across the district, it is also a gathering of Southwest UU ministers.

I have been involved in three districts during my life as a Unitarian Universalist. The first was Prairie Star, when I was a layperson and then on the staff in St. Paul, Minnesota. The second was Ohio Valley District (now part of Heartland) when I was a minister in Bloomington, Indiana. For the past twenty-one years I have attended the Southwest Conference (a District of the UUA). I have been involved at many levels in the Southwest Conference, including serving on the Board of Trustees.

These gatherings fulfill a deep need for information sharing, for lectures and workshops, for fellowship and renewal, especially for our members from the more remote parts of our territory.

As a candidate, I have become keenly aware of the season of District Gatherings! It seems logical I would try to attend as many district meetings as possible to present my candidacy. To my surprise, several of the district spring meetings are scheduled on the same weekend! Three occurred last weekend, four will be April 11-13 and seven more are on April 25 – 27. There are even two more scheduled for early May.

While I can’t be at all the District gatherings, thanks to very generous and capable volunteers, my campaign will have a table with materials about my candidacy at almost every District gathering in April and in May. Please take time to pick up the materials provided (including buttons!) and please sign supporter cards. (note: we list supporters on our web site once we have your signature giving permission) Talk with the people at the table and find out more about the campaign and about me!

If you can’t make it to your District gathering, or you want more materials to share with members in your congregation, let me know through the “Contact Us” feature of this web site.
